CapX: A proper debate is needed around the NHS

April 13, 2015 9:55 AM

Our Campaign Director Andy Silvester wrote for CapX this weekend on the need for a proper debate around the future of the NHS.

Arguing that a political bidding war is fundamentally unsustainable, Andy writes:

It is in vogue in Britain to trash politicians – much of it unfair. But the sight of party leaders burying their heads in the sand, ignoring the failings of the NHS and the seemingly insurmountable challenges it will face in the coming decades, is thoroughly depressing. The public deserve better.

UPDATE: Just a day after this was posted, the Conservatives delved around the back of the Treasury sofa and found another £8 billion a year for the service - with no apparent idea what it would be spent on, or how its effectiveness might be judged.
