I’d just like to point out that the piece explicitly states that we should not copy the American system as you seem to suggest it does.

Further to this there are a number of points you make that are, simply put, wrong. Particularly that: “any insurance based system leaves one group of people unprotected – the sick”

A few points:

Healthcare is universal in the Netherlands, France and Germany – all of which have social insurance models. There are many, many more countries where this is the case.

Low income people can get credits towards paying for their insurance premiums in such systems.

Also, in the Netherlands for example, insurers are by law, not allowed to reject patients in their coverage area. A risk equalisation fund compensates insurers for taking on higher risk patients.
