Lee Canning, TaxPayers' Alliance Wales coordinator, was critical of the reported figure of 83 people in France on duty for BBC Wales.
"While it's undoubtedly an exciting time for Welsh football, licence fee payers will want corporation bosses to explain why BBC Wales alone needs to send a squad of more than 80 to cover the tournament," he said. "They could muster more than seven football teams between them! The BBC regularly sends a lot more staff to big events than other broadcasters who seem to manage with far fewer. So with hard-pressed licence fee payers footing the bills, the BBC needs to demonstrate that it is delivering value for money and using resources more efficiently."
