Budget 2016: Osborne considers raising 40p tax rate threshold - Tax Assist

Dia Chakravarty, political director, the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “It is certainly welcome news that the personal allowance and the higher rate thresholds are rumoured to rise, leaving more money in the pockets of those who have earned it.

“However, the speculation around the fuel duty rise would dismay taxpayers, particularly those on lower incomes as it would translate into a direct increase in household costs.

“The Chancellor must fight the temptation to rake in more money for the Treasury at the cost of hard-pressed families and instead focus on policies that encourage greater economic activity leading to further growth and increased employment.”
