Below you will find all the councils who lost your money in Icelandic banks.  You will also find the contact details of the leaders of the respective councils.  Have our 10 Per Cent Challenge to hand when you write to them, telling them where they can cut spending so they don’t increase our taxes.  If they only cut 10% from their publicity, payroll and pensions they could save on average £40 off the Band D council tax bill.  Ask them what they will save, what middle managers they will cut back on and other non-jobs.  Demand that they do not increase your taxes last year.  Now is your chance to hold your council to account over your money they have gambled away.

We need to shout loud and clear that they must sort out their bureaucracies and not take the easy way out and hike up our taxes.  The fight for lower council tax – or even a freeze – starts now:

I like it – name and shame. Should be more of it.

Thank you TPA for starting the name and shame of local authorities. If these people who invested on the tax payers behalf are qulified to do so then maybe they can explain wat has gone wrong.

it is about time that the taxpayer should tell all government officials both national and local exactly what we think of them, any one who has invested our taxes and lost then should be kicked out of their jobs with no pension entitlement and all of their personal wealth confiscated, this would serve as a warning to all of these jumped up politicians and petty officials that they should think of the tax payers in the future, and consider the long term effect of all actions taken by them in office.

Bristol: I know Cllr Helen Holland. She was the one who thought that the tram project was a good idea (for commuters, perhaps, but not many other people – and commuter services don’t pay back the investment). Then Lab lost control to a minority LD administration that dealt with the black hole in the budget but didn’t get much further before in turn giving way to a minority Lab group. Now the Lab boys and girls have got lots of DfT money to build rapid transit busways – the first route was trashed because it couldn’t fit down the corridor chosen without closing the Bristol to Bath cycle path (and this in the City that hosts Sustrans), so lots of design money down the drain again – and anyway there is no proof that many people would use the buses on that route. Helen thinks that Ruth Kelly was good as transport Minister… But they are all saved: lunchtime Sunday report that we have frozen £4bn of Icelandic assets (cash, I hope, rather than bank shares).

Write to Eric Pickles and ask why so many conservative councils are on the list, with the highest amounts of money.
