Jonathan Isaby, Chief Executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: "This is a worrying amount spent on a single piece of equipment.

"Obesity may well be a problem but when authorities are having to find necessary savings it does beg the question if this really can be the best use of taxpayers' money."
