Representatives of the Taxpayers Alliance have taken a different stance, stating that councils should learn to live within their means. Political director Dia Chakravarty said residents expect the tax they already pay to fund essential local services. "If the existing money is not going towards those services then perhaps there is a case to reexamine the local authority's priorities," she said. "Councils need to make sure every bit of waste is cut out before asking struggling taxpayers to dig deeper into their pockets."
