The TaxPayers’ Alliance has written to the NHS asking for details of its pension scheme and has come up against a bureaucratic brick wall. The NHS replied that it had 1,985,056 pension records and that it would take half an hour to analyse each one of the first 1.4 million and an hour to analyse each of the other 600,000. By my calculations, the NHS would take 1,290,286 hours to provide information on its own pension pot or, in old money, just over 147 years. Given that he’ll be free after July 6, this sounds right up Sir John Chilcot’s street.
