Hi Andrew,

Our National Debt per capita is just less that £22,000 and per household it is just higher than £77,000, I am sure you will agree that this is unacceptably high.

I’m afraid I can’t say how much exactly debt interest is paid to overseas investors (as different gilts have different coupons) but given that they hold c.30 per cent of Gilts I would estimate it at around £14 billion.

Where the Bank of England owns debt the majority is from the quantitative easing programmes of recent years.
