Jonathan Isaby, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, also said the council should be careful not to 'simply buy into the latest fad'.

'The council must demonstrate that spending taxpayers' money on using new technology actually helps to bring down costs elsewhere and improve services, and are not simply buying in to the latest fad.


'It's important to embrace new ideas that can help improve efficiency, but it's equally important to only do so when it works.'
The council refused to confirm how much the proposed satellite plan would cost the taxpayer but confirmed it could be rolled out nationwide if successful.
