Eight councillors at a local authority had to be reminded to pay their council tax in the last two years, it has emerged.

A Freedom of Information Act request by a pressure group has revealed that legal action had to be taken against one of the politicians before he or she parted with their cash.

Bath and North East Somerset has not revealed the identities of any of the politicians concerned and initially refused to provide the information to the Bath branch of the TaxPayers’ Alliance.

The 12,000 31p-a-minute calls have been slammed by pressure group the Taxpayers’ Alliance.

‘If council staff are stuck for the time, they could easily look online or at the clocks on the wall that taxpayers have already paid for,’ said campaign manager Robert Oxley.
