Deadline News: Council under fire for spending decisions

Matthew Elliot , Chief Executive of the Tax Payer’s Alliance, today slammed the council for its spending decisions.

He said: “East Lothian Council have to make savings, they can’t afford to blow taxpayers money on racecourses and Starbucks. The council should reign in its spending on hospitality and fancy drinks events.

“Taxpayers have seen their councils tax bills nearly double in the last decade and now it’s clear where too much of that cash has been going, skinny lattés and Irn Bru,” he added.

Daily Express: ‘Panda Party’ at zoo cost us nearly £43,000

Matthew Elliott, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “Taxpayers will be bamboozled at the decision of the Scottish Government to go back on its promise not to spend any taxpayers’ money on the pandas’ party.”

Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance pressure group, said: “Taxpayers will be astonished at the vast sums of money paid out for claimants to live in the most exclusive parts of London.

“It is deeply unfair for hard- working families to be forced to support benefit claimants living in properties many of those taxpayers couldn’t possibly afford themselves.”
