Mr Green said it cost a fire crew about £290 per hour to attend an incident. The Taxpayers’ Alliance said the fire service should only be called out in a true emergency.
A spokesman said: “Fire services like every other organisation have to find savings and to prioritise services they provide. To many taxpayers rescuing a cat stuck up a tree won’t be a priority.”
