Mail Online: 1 in 20 of population forced to undergo criminal records checks in Big Brother Britain
Emma Boon, campaign director of the TaxPayers’ Alliance group, said: ‘At between £26 and £44 per CRB check, it’s worrying that councils are among the highest users of the system.
‘It is a large authority but Essex County Council has carried out a disproportionately high number of checks, potentially racking up huge bills for taxpayers.
‘There are legitimate concerns over the value of CRB and councils shouldn’t be carrying out checks without the permission of the person they are looking up.’
