Robert Oxley, the Taxpayers’ Alliance campaign manager, said: “Drivers already face excessive motoring taxes, the last thing they need is to be targeted by further punitive parking charges.

“Parking fines are harmful to local trade and can damage a tourist industry that so many are reliant on. Many drivers will see this as a further stealth tax at a time when they are already struggling.”
