Millions of pounds spent by Flintshire Council on upkeep of staff cars - News North Wales

Jonathan Isaby, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: “Any member of council staff using their own vehicle for work purposes will presumably be making mileage claims – which more than cover their petrol and account for many of the other costs of running the vehicle.

“So, local taxpayers can’t be blamed for feeling they are being taken for a ride, given the amount of their cash being pumped into this scheme.

“With council budgets so tight and local authorities needing to justify every penny they spend, Flintshire Council ought urgently to be reviewing whether this scheme is affordable and justifiable.

“At the end of the day, every pound doled out to staff through the scheme is a pound less to be spent on frontline services.”
