Mr Colvile, who has a home in Wandsworth, told a committee of councillors: "The council tax which is paid in Wandsworth is significantly lower, it's one of the lowest in the country, and they are an incredibly efficient local authority.
"There are differences, but there are ways in which you could ask them to come and have a look at the books and see if they have any advice. If you don't want to talk to them, talk to the Taxpayers' Alliance or some London boroughs who have ended up sharing their chief executives. It seems you must be willing to have an openness and talk to people about getting them to give you advice. If you say no, you will never make it at all."
