Responding to the Audit Office report that the Welsh Government paid over the odds for Cardiff Airport, Lee Canning, Wales co-ordinator for the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:
Welsh taxpayers will struggle to understand why such a large amount of their money has been wasted so needlessly. When some Assembly Members are pleading poverty and fighting necessary budget cuts, taxpayers will want answers to why Cardiff Airport was bought for up to £30 million over the asking price. When belts are being tightened, elected representatives have to make sure that every penny of taxpayers' money is spent wisely.
