£150 million civil service golden goodbye bill

Civil service departments, including quangos, paid out more than £150 million in exit payments in 2022/23, a TaxPayers' Alliance investigation has revealed. One individual received £397,000, believed to be the highest ever.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, which published the findings, our chief executive John O'Connell said:

"Calling this top payout a golden goodbye is an understatement, this is more of a diamond departure.

"And it's just the biggest of the pack, with many more mandarins taking home bumper packages funded by hard-pressed taxpayers

"The government has promised to cap these payouts, it's now time to turn words into action."
