A TaxPayers' Alliance investigation has revealed that NHS Trusts have spent £269,000 providing Contemporary and Alternative treatments. These treatments include Herbal remedies, acupuncture, foot massages, head massages, Indian head massages, homoeopathy, aromatherapy, reiki face and feet reflexology and more. There is not a solid definition.
Speaking to the Sun on Sunday, which published these findings, our investigations campaign manager, Joanna Marchong said:
“Taxpayers will be astounded at the news that you can get foot massages on the NHS.
“With the health service supposedly under tremendous financial pressure and long waiting lists for core treatments, quack remedies and herbal therapies cannot be allowed to divert precious resources.
“NHS bosses must ensure every penny of taxpayers’ money is spent efficiently, delivering the frontline care people depend on.”
