News reaches us that Wokingham Borough Council and Harrogate Council are looking for new members for their Independent Remuneration Panels.
IRPs are citizens panels that recommend what pay and perks councillors receive. They’re your chance to have a say on the type of service your councillors and your council are providing.
Recently, Wokingham’s councillors voted through a 10% pay increase, taking the basic councillor salary up to £7,360 and the leader’s salary to £20,000 on top of the £7,360 basic salary. If you’re not pleased with that, don’t just sit there, apply to join the IRP.
With the government borrowing enormous amounts, every penny we can save can make the difference to public finances.
