Responding to the publication of Lord Carter's report on NHS efficiency, Jonathan Isaby, Chief Executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:
"With an ageing population, the NHS simply has to become more efficient, and Lord Carter's report has confirmed our own research into wasteful spending at far too many NHS trusts. Pumping ever more borrowed money into the Health Service is fundamentally unsustainable and would be disastrous for the nation's finances. NHS officials must take a long hard look at Lord Carter's report and ensure that waste is minimised wherever possible so that taxpayers' money is only used for patient care and essential drugs."
