Civil servants have taken tens of thousands of sick days in excess of 7 days without providing a sick note, a TaxPayers' Alliance investigation has found. The Ministry of Defence had more than 90 per cent of the days lost. Multiple departments failed to respond.
Speaking to the Daily Express, which published the findings, our media campaign manager Conor Holohan said:
"The number of days lost to sick leave without a note is indefensible.
"Taxpayers are fed up with seeing Whitehall bosses give employees such an easy ride, with no proof required that bureaucrats who are off sick actually need to be.
“Mandarins should ensure that the rules are followed and notes are provided.”
