Civil servants take 2,500 years’ worth of mental health sick leave in a year

A TaxPayers' Alliance investigation has revealed that civil servants took nearly 5 million sick days over the last two years. Of these sick days 1,678,667 days were lost due to mental health excuses.

Speaking to the Telegraph, which published these findings, our investigations campaign manager, Joanna Marchong said:

“Taxpayers will be exasperated by the chronic absenteeism gripping Whitehall.

“The number of sick days taken by sluggish civil servants keeps climbing, with hard-pressed taxpayers left picking up the tab for a workforce that increasingly fails to show up.

“Ministers must crack down on the feeble excuses that let bureaucrats skive off on full pay.”
