A TaxPayers' Alliance campaign
On Wednesday 30th August 2023, the TaxPayers' Alliance wrote to all council leaders asking them to sign a pledge ruling out implementing a four-day working week in their Town Hall.
By signing this pledge, council leaders will be able to show their commitment to delivering value for money for local taxpayers.
Cllr Seán Woodward, executive leader of Fareham Borough Council, was one of the first to reply and offer his pledge:
"I have today signed a pledge confirming that my Council will not be moving to a four-day week all the while I am its Leader. I firmly believe the Council is there to serve its residents and we have an excellent team of hard-working officers at Fareham Borough Council who ensure we do that extremely well. It would not be acceptable for our residents to have that service reduced by 20% to four days a week."
The full list of respondents will be made available in due course.
