Comment on Justin Welby's higher tax proposals

For immediate release

Commenting on Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby’s proposals for higher taxes, James Price, Campaign Manager at the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said:

"The Archbishop seems to have forgotten the command to ‘render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and unto God what is God’s’ and he should stick to his theological work.

"Calling for others to pay even more tax is not inherently moral, but trusting people with more of their own money can and does help the poorest people out of poverty.

"With the tax burden in the UK at a near 50 year high and economic growth sluggish, the last thing Britain needs is this cocktail of business taxes and arbitrary £10,000 handouts to 25-year olds.”
