Cornwall Council spent £4.4 million on staff redundancies in just one calendar year, according to a TPA investigation. Redundancy payments were made to more than 200 staff in 2022 with the highest single payment worth more than £94,000.
Speaking to Cornwall Live, which published the findings, our chief executive John O'Connell said:
“These golden goodbyes will be a kick in the teeth for local taxpayers.
"Redundancy payments are a normal part of doing business, but local authorities should be expected to keep them under control.
"Council bosses should ensure that some of these sums aren't repeated."
