Cornwall council's £4.4 million redundancy bill

Cornwall Council spent £4.4 million on staff redundancies in just one calendar year, according to a TPA investigation. Redundancy payments were made to more than 200 staff in 2022 with the highest single payment worth more than £94,000.

 

Speaking to Cornwall Live, which published the findings, our chief executive John O'Connell said:

“These golden goodbyes will be a kick in the teeth for local taxpayers.

"Redundancy payments are a normal part of doing business, but local authorities should be expected to keep them under control.

"Council bosses should ensure that some of these sums aren't repeated."
