Councils are footing the heating bills of staff working from home

Eleven councils have spent taxpayers' money on paying for the heating bills of staff working from home, a TaxPayers' Alliance investigation has revealed. A total of £450,000 has been spent by 11 councils.

 

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, which published the findings, our operations manager Benjamin Elks said:

"Taxpayers will be shocked that they're picking up the tab for the basics.

"Public sector workers already receive higher salaries, better pensions and greater job security than their private sector counterparts.

"Utility bills are a simple fact of life and should come out of staff salaries just like they do for everyone else. Councils should ensure that these payments are ended immediately."
