Former MP on trial over expenses

Former Labour MP for Scunthorpe and minister Elliot Morley today faces trial at Southwark Crown Court for allegations of false accounting in relation to his expenses. The 58 year old denies theft by false accounting.  Mr Morley’s trial is the first to arise from the expenses scandal that first erupted in May 2009, and which was a major focus for the TaxPayers’ Alliance campaign team.  We subsequently helped with the process of reforming the system of MPs’ expenses, and a new regulatory body, IPSA, was set up earlier this year.

Former Labour MPs Jim Devine (Livingstone), David Chaytor (Bury North) and Conservative peer Lord Hanningfield (Paul White) are to be tried separately on charges relating to their expenses.Former Labour MP for Scunthorpe and minister Elliot Morley today faces trial at Southwark Crown Court for allegations of false accounting in relation to his expenses.
