Responding to this morning's announcement by the Department for Energy and Climate Change that wind farm subsidies will be abolished sooner than planned, Jonathan Isaby, Chief Executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:
"Onshore wind subsidies have pushed up energy bills for years and the Government is right to get rid of this costly subsidy. Energy policy should be focused on keeping the lights on at the lowest possible cost to hard-pressed families, and lucrative handouts to wind energy providers have long been unjustifiable. The renewable industry must learn to stand on its own two feet, becoming significantly more innovative, rather than relying on a vociferous green lobby hoovering up taxpayers' money to subsidise unsustainable investments."
in 2011, the TaxPayers' Alliance produced Let Them Eat Carbon, a book-length study of the renewable energy industry and its impact on energy bills.
