25 London councils paid out a total of more than £14 million in golden goodbyes in 2022, a TaxPayers' Alliance investigation revealed. At least four councils paid out six-figure exit packages, including Haringey, Hammersmith and Hillingdon. The largest exit package was paid out by Haringey, at £154,681; the largest total bill was Hammersmith's, at £2,828,719.
Speaking to MyLondon, which published the findings, our investigations campaign manager Elliot Keck said:
"Londoners will rightly be furious about these golden goodbyes.
"While households scrimp and save, council fat cats are trousering huge exit payments.
"Local authorities must ensure that redundancy packages are affordable."
