Responding to the mention of TaxPayers’ Alliance research in the House of Commons by the leader of the opposition Kemi Badenoch, John O'Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:
“It's encouraging to hear the leader of the opposition stand up for taxpayers given the ballooning benefits bill.
“The government have shown shocking cowardice in their screeching u-turn on what were only minor reductions in the growth of the welfare spending. As our dashboard has demonstrated what is happening with PIP simply doesn't pass the smell test.
“Politicians must not shy away from the urgent need to significantly cut welfare spending and ease the pressures on businesses to help people get back to work.”
