John Spellar MP recently asked the Prime Minister what will be done to finish construction of the Midland Metropolitan Hospital in Smethwick. Building work stopped three months ago following the collapse of Carillion and the PFI contract has yet to be retendered.
The effects of the collapse are now starting to play out in reality. The cost of the new hospital may increase and the project could be further delayed. That would be bad news for taxpayers and for patients in the West Midlands. The authorities should get a move on with the project as any delay will cost taxpayers a fortune.
