More than £3 million in government grants have been paid to organisations campaigning against the Rwanda deportation plan, a TPA investigation has revealed. Nine organisations involved in the writing of an open letter against the scheme received funding.
Speaking to the Daily Express, which published the findings, our chief executive John O'Connell said:
"Taxpayers are fed up of seeing their money propping up controversial campaigns and causes.
“Bureaucrats are giving handouts to activist groups, empowering certain viewpoints and distorting the decision-making process.
"Government needs to stop spending hard-pressed households’ cash on the lobbying merry-go-round, and instead focus funds on taxpayers’ priorities.”
