Northern Irish council's £1 million bill for golden goodbyes

In just one year alone, Mid and East Antrim Council spent over £1 million on golden goodbyes to 31 staff, our investigation found. This included two payments worth over £100,000, with the largest payment standing at £107,312.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, which published the findings, our investigations campaign manager Elliot Keck said:

"These golden goodbyes will be a kick in the teeth for local taxpayers.

"Redundancy payments are a normal part of doing business, but local authorities should be expected to keep them under control.

"Council bosses should ensure that some of these sums aren't repeated."
