Storing excess PPE costed taxpayers £580,000 per day in January, according to new data uncovered by the TaxPayers' Alliance. A total of £312 million was spent on storing PPE between January 2022 and January 2023.
Speaking to Sky News, which published the findings, our chief executive John O'Connell said:
"While costs are falling, the COVID hangover is still placing an enormous burden on taxpayers.
"While ministers had to work quickly during unprecedented times, households are still facing an eye-watering bill for mistakes made.
"Ministers must get a grip on this spending once and for all."
