Taxpayer-funded trip to French Riviera for UK councils

UK councils spent tens of thousands of pounds on sending representatives to a conference on the French Riviera. A total of £138,300 was spent on attending MIPIM, a real estate conference, a TaxPayers' Alliance investigation revealed.

 

Speaking to the Daily Express, which published the findings, our investigations campaign manager Elliot Keck said:

"Council tax has just gone up yet again across the country, and taxpayers will want to know why councils still can't show restraint on overseas trips.

"Households are being squeezed from every side and are told by public sector officials that there's no more fat to trim, which is difficult to believe as they jet off to the French Riviera.

"Local authorities have to work a lot harder to deliver value for taxpayers' hard-earned cash."
