TaxPayers’ Alliance responds to the chancellor’s speech

For immediate release

Responding to Rachel Reeves’ first speech as chancellor of the exchequer, John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“Taxpayers will welcome the chancellor’s commitment to delivering growth and her genuine grasp of the problems with the planning system.

“But with Reeves frequently reaching for the same tired recipe of additional quangos and centralised decision-making, Brits will fear that what they’re actually going to be served will simply be more of the same, just with a red rose attached.

“As well as addressing issues with planning, the new government should take seriously the significant problems with the tax system and the many ways in which it harms economic growth and reduces investment."
