TaxPayers’ Alliance responds to Labour’s examination of quangos for potential closure

For immediate release

Responding to the chancellor of the duchy of Lancaster’s letter asking quangos to justify their existence or be shut down, John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“For too long, Britain’s sprawling network of quangos has operated in the shadows, with successive governments all too willing to look the other way at best and empower them further at worst.

“Taxpayers have heard bold promises to slash bureaucracy before, but past attempts have been half-hearted and hopelessly ineffective, more likely leading to rebrands rather than fundamental reform.

“Labour must go beyond tough talk - it’s time for Britain’s quangos to be uncovered.”
