TaxPayers’ Alliance responds to local government finance settlement

For immediate release

Responding to the local government finance settlement, Elliot Keck, head of campaigns of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“Taxpayers will be expecting to see immediate results from the inflation-busting tax hikes that they’re being subjected to, particularly given the increase in government funding above and beyond this rate rise.

“Every year residents are being hit with ever higher bills, only to see depressingly little improvement in their local area.

“Town halls need to wake up, smell the coffee and begin a ruthless drive to increase efficiency and productivity in their all too frequently sclerotic organisations.”

Responding to Windsor and Maidenhead being given permission to increase council tax by nine per cent, Benjamin Elks, grassroots development manager of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“Local residents will be pleasantly surprised to see Angela Rayner stand up to the voracious town hall bosses in Windsor and Maidenhead and their barmy request for a 25 per cent tax hike.

“But even this significantly lower limit will still cause pain for taxpayers, and calls into question the whole point of the referendum principles.

“This still remains a win for the people of Windsor and Maidenhead, and for the TPA who have been campaigning over the last two weeks against the proposed hike.”
