TaxPayers’ Alliance responds to near 60 year high debt level

For immediate release

Responding to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) latest public sector finances figures showing the highest debt to GDP ratio since 1963, John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“These numbers confirm Britain’s debt level is now the highest in a generation.

“It serves as a wake up call for the scale of the financial challenge facing us, not just today but for years into the future.

“This month’s Spending Review is the perfect time for ministers to get a handle on borrowing and stop debt from spiralling any further.”
