TaxPayers’ Alliance responds to new record high debt interest payments

For immediate release

Responding to the Office for National Statistics’s (ONS) Public Sector Finances June 2022, John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“These figures show the cost of servicing the national debt is now in the stratosphere, with yet another record being broken.

“Inflation and out of control public spending threaten to only make matters worse, yet the government seems unwilling or unable to get a grip on the nation’s finances.

“Ministers must get serious on spending to tackle the towering debt level and ensure taxpayers are protected.”
