TaxPayers’ Alliance responds to ONS public sector finances figures

For immediate release

Responding to the Office for National Statistics’s (ONS) Public Sector Finances February 2022, John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“These figures give the chancellor some much-needed wriggle room to prevent the economy from going under.

“Soaring inflation may be multiplying our debt interest payments, but it is also increasing the tax take - meaning now is not the time for more tax hikes.

“The chancellor must use his spring statement to take action and go for growth, by giving taxpayers and businesses a respite from tax rises and scrapping the health and social care levy.”
