TaxPayers’ Alliance responds to reports that Rachel Reeves could be forced to announce further tax rises in the Autumn

For immediate release

Responding to reports that Rachel Reeves could be forced to announce further tax rises in the Autumn, John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“Taxpayers will be rightly nervous at the news that they could be facing further tax rises in the Autumn.

“The chancellor is reaping what she sowed at the budget as her policies drive higher borrowing, lower growth, and wipe out her fiscal headroom.

“If Reeves wants to grow the economy, she needs to resist calls to extend the freeze on income tax bands, reverse her hike on employers’ national insurance, and get the cost of government crisis under control.
