TaxPayers’ Alliance responds to Starmer’s speech on NHS reform

For immediate release

Responding to Keir Starmer’s speech on the need for NHS reform,John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“Starmer is spot on to bang the drum for reform but the claim that the health system has had an austere decade will leave taxpayers concerned that he is ultimately going to reach for the same, failed playbook of ever more cash.

“The truth is the last government pumped ever more money into the NHS, but the black hole of this monolithic system had lost the ability to turn more inputs into better outputs.

“The prime minister needs to be held to his promise that the bill for these reforms doesn’t end up coming out of the pockets of taxpayers.”
