TaxPayers' Alliance responds to the announcement of the new BBC director general

For immediate release

Responding to the announcement of the new BBC director general, John O'Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“Continuing the long line of establishment BBC bosses suggests the Beeb have tuned out the concerns of licence-fee payers.

“Commercial experience from the new director general is unlikely to turn the tide on how viewers watch the box, with Netflix and other modern streaming services now first choice for many.

“BBC head honchos need to get real with the reform the broadcaster desperately needs: to axe the TV tax and move firmly into the 21st century.”
