Bankrupt councils in the UK have 45 staff members on six-figure salaries, a TaxPayers' Alliance investigation has revealed. This includes Croydon, where 21 members of staff were on salaries in excess of £100,000.
Speaking to the Daily Express, which published the findings, our investigations campaign manager Elliot Keck said:
“Local taxpayers have looked on in horror as their council bet everything on black, only to end up in the red.
"Yet town hall bosses are still receiving whopping six-figure salaries, even before pensions and other perks are taken into account.
“Serious restraint on pay should be shown if bankrupt councils are going to balance the books.”
