Why wait for the IPS?

The Identity and Passport Service, who are responsible for the ID cards programme, obviously got a very quick ministerial phone call or email yesterday. They swiftly posted up this statement:

Both Parties that now form the new Government stated in their manifestos that they will cancel Identity Cards and the National Identity Register. We will announce in due course how this will be achieved.

But why wait for the IPS to graciously "announce in due course"? Here are a few tips they could follow on exactly how to wrap up this pointless farce:

1) Tipex out the "Identity and" bit on your brass nameplate.
2) Right click + delete the Identity database, then clear the Recycle Bin.
3) Turn off the computer.
4) Switch off the lights, lock the door and never - ever - come back.

Any other suggestions?
