A TaxPayers' Alliance investigation has uncovered that there 837 non-clinical staff have been working in English hospitals in 2022/23. They were on the highest Band 9 contracts. The data has revealed a the number of non-clinical staff has risen by 235 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Speaking to The Sun, which published the findings, our chief executive, John O'Connell, said:
“Patients will be furious at the surge in fat cat managers.
“When taxpayers are asked to cough up more and more for the health service, they expect it to go to doctors and nurses, not ever more pen pushers.
“NHS bosses need to ensure they use their record funding far more efficiently.”
