Responding to today’s employment figures from the Office for National Statistics, John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:
“Taxpayers have been left doing the heavy lifting off the back of the covid crisis.
“Public sector job growth and the ongoing furlough scheme are no substitute for the terrible unemployment we now see in struggling sectors like hospitality.
“The government needs to focus on getting people back to work and stimulating economic growth by committing to tax cuts, eliminating red tape and supporting taxpayers and businesses.”
